What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that is built on constantly varied, functional movements, done at high intensity. Our workouts are universally scalable, which means any committed individual - regardless of experience or fitness level - can benefit from CrossFit. That also means we use the same programming for every member - we just scale load and intensity. At CrossFit Hermitage, we believe in training for life, which means we prepare for the unknown and the unknowable. We do this by training to optimize proficiency across ten recognized fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.
What makes CrossFit Hermitage different?
We push, pull, squat, jump, run and develop the physical and mental capacities that we need in life. We train using functional movements; our workouts are always varied and with your commitment to hard work, we offer measurable results. With every session, there is a certified coach there to teach, challenge, and encourage you. Unlike other gyms, CrossFit Hermitage is a community of people that grows and encourages you to be your best.
What are functional movements?
Functional movements are movements we see in everyday life. Getting up out of a chair is a squat. Picking up a bag of topsoil or a child is a form of deadlift. Putting groceries away on an overhead shelf is a shoulder press. When we practice these movements, we develop strength and muscle recruitment patterns that we use on a regular basis. Some workouts are done for time, some for a score, and some for max weight lifted. Life doesn’t come at us as 3 sets of 10. Why should we exercise that way?
I don't have the time to workout!
We are busy people living in busy times. One of the biggest benefits of CrossFit is its efficiency. You can be in, warmed-up, worked-out, and out the door in an hour or less, which may sound impossible but the key is in the intensity of the exercises we do.
But I'm too _______ to do CrossFit!
CrossFit is universally scalable meaning that everyone, regardless of age, gender, experience or fitness level can workout with CrossFit programming. CrossFit is about working at high intensity...relative intensity...defined by each individual. We can modify any workout to be sure you can work at the level that's right for you. We simply ask that you show up and work hard. In return, you will get in the best shape of your life. The beauty of the program is that we meet you where you are and take you where you want to go...as far as you are willing to push yourself.

If I’m working at such high intensity, will I get hurt?
CrossFit is not dangerous.
Bad coaching is dangerous; poor movement is dangerous; ego is dangerous.
CrossFit, properly scaled to the individual, is the safest and most efficient program available.
We focus on a progression of technique and solid mechanics...then consistency...then intensity. Injuries can happen when doing any sort of exercise program, but here at CrossFit Hermitage, we minimize the risk of injury by: having a solid CrossFit 101 program that focuses on proper form and mechanics; always warming up appropriately; and always having a certified trainer present to ensure proper form and scaling.
We do not offer open gym times for people to workout without supervision!
What are your hours?
We are open during our posted class times only. Personal training sessions are by appointment only.
I’m visiting from out of town, can I drop-in to workout?
Yes, please! We always welcome visiting CrossFitters. Please contact us first so we can plan accordingly.
